KULTURE : STREET ARTISTS AGAINST ADVERTISING

A New York, la pub est envahissante, une partie des pubs ne sont pourtant pas légales. C'est la spécialité d'une agence nommée NPA, qui propose aux annonceurs des affiches énormes à des endroits "non conventionnels". Parfois ils osent même ajouter à leur emplacement des haut parleurs afin d'améliorer leur pub.
In New York City, advertising is everywhere, even though a good part of it is not even legal. There's even an agency, called NPA, that sells huge commercial spots in "unconventionnal places" to their clients. Sometimes they also add speakers to make their ads more efficient.
La majeure partie de leurs publicités est souvent illégale. Pourtant la ville ne fait pas beaucoup d'efforts pour les enlever. Un artiste a donc pris l'initiative de le faire à leur place.
Most of their business is illegal, but the city council doesn't seem to mind much and does nothing to stop such a thing. Thus an artist decided to react and fight against those commercials.
Jordan Seiler a monté le site ‘Municipal Landscape Control Comitee'. Il a d’abord listé chacune de ces publicités abusives sur Google Map. Ensuite il a mobilisé 26 volontaires pour les blanchir en une journée.
Jordan Seiler created the website ‘Municipal Landscape Control Comitee'. He first made a list of all those abusive ads on Google Map. He then enlisted 26 people to re-paint all those spots with white.
Ce qui devait se passer, se passa, des artistes ont ensuite envahi ces toiles vierges pour y peindre.
What was bound to happen, happened, and various artists used those white boards as their canvas and repainted them all.
La morale de l’histoire ?
On vit dans un monde de merde : un artiste et 3 autres personnes ont été arrêtées, et NPA a recollé ses affiches dès le lendemain.
