J'attendrai que le patin soit à nouveau populaire pour rester à la maison et attendre que les images des compétitions me parviennent grâce à Internet. En ces périodes sombres cependant, je ferai mon possible pour répondre à l'appel et me joindre à ces assemblées, parce qu'il y a bien bien trop peu d'événements pour ne pas essayer de paraître aussi soudés que notre communauté le permet.

I will wait until rollerblading is big again so I can just stay home and wait for the contests edits and photos to pop up on the Internet. Until then though, I will make it a point to come out and join the sporadic crowd, because there are far too few of these events to not stand as united as our community allows.

En ce qui concerne la compétition en elle-même en revanche, il est de plus en plus difficile d'en apprécier la qualité, l'élément de surprise ayant déserté les finales. Bien sûr, le niveau est impressionnant, mais alors que les patineurs deviennent des professionnels, l'excitation sincère et l'amusement que devrait véhiculer ce sport en viennent à disparaître.

As for the comps themselves however, I find it harder and harder to get juiced on the skating, as the element of surprise has disappeared from the pro finals. Of course, the level of skating is impressive, but as it gets more « professional » it also lacks genuine excitement and fun rollerblading should be all about.

Roman Abrate placed 2nd at the comp, but he also took the time to destroy the rail with neat tricks like this steezed out misfit.

Ce qui est vraiment intéressant dans nos compétitions, c'est que tout le monde ne vient pas pour les gagner. Certains viennent pour participer et replaquer leurs meilleures figures sans trop se soucier de leur place au classement. Certains viennent casser le spot avec un sourire sur les lèvres et apprécier le moment avec les amis. En voici certains, capturés par l'appareil magique de Greg Mirzoyan ! Bon appétit !

The cool thing about comps is that not everyone comes to win. Some come to participate and lace their best tricks without caring too much about their final rankings.
