PHOTOS : ONE WEEK IN SYDNEY

Mon frère et moi arrivâmes à l'aéroport de Sydney le 8 Août à 22h. Notre "contact" et ami Français Hadrien Bastouil nous donne rendez-vous à Central Station. Sans portable ce fut un peu difficile de se retrouver, mais après 2 ou 3 coups de fil à partir de cabines téléphoniques il fini par nous apercevoir. De là, nous prenons un taxi pour nous rendre à une soirée chez CJ Wellsmore tenant de la célèbre Vine Street.
My brother and I got to Sydney Airport on the 8th of August at 10pm. Our "contact" a friend from France, Hadrien Bastouil, directed us to Central Station to meet up. With no cell phone it was a little hard to get to the same place, but after a couple of calls from public phones he finally found us. From there we got a cab to go to a party at CJ Wellsmore's, resident of the infamous Vine Street.
Le chauffeur Iranien nous raconte qu'il ne connait pas l’adresse et que c’est sa première nuit dans ce quartier de Sydney. Heureusement, il trouve du premier coup. La soirée a lieu sur le toit du garage, il y a des gens partout et de tous les pays. Nous posons les sacs dans le garage et nous nous dirigeons vers le Bottle Shop au coin de la rue pour nous ravitailler en bières. Une heure après notre arrivée, tout le monde se dirige vers le quartier de King’s Cross pour continuer la soirée dans un club: The Oxford Art Factory. Sur notre chemin, un policier nous demande de vider nos bières car il est interdit de boire dans la rue. Hadrien réussira à finir sa bière discrètement (car la boisson ca ne se gaspille pas !). Avec Hadrien, ses colocataires (Katrine du Danemark, Kristen du Canada et Charles des USA) et Alex (USA), nous essayons de rentrer à trois reprises mais sans succès; la soirée se finira dans un autre pub.
The Iranian driver told us he didn't know the address and that it was his first night in the neighbourhood. "Luckily" he found the place first try. The party is on the roof of their garage, there are people everywhere and from all over the world. After putting our bags inside the garage, we walked to the Bottle shop on the street corner to get some beer supplies. An hour after we got there everyone started moving towards King’s Cross for some more shenanigans at the Oxford Art Factory club. On our way there a cop asked us to empty our beers as it is not allowed to drink in the streets. Hadrien got to discreetly finish his (because one cannot just waste beer). With Hadrien, his flatmates (Katrine from Denmark, Kristen from Canada and Charles from the US) and Alex (US) we tried to get in thrice, but got denied as many times; oh well the night ended in another pub.
Opéra de Sydney
Le lendemain, journée de repos pour tout le monde. Hadrien nous fait faire un tour Sydney: The Rocks, Darling Harbour, The Opera House puis nous passons chez CJ récupérer nos sacs que nous espérons encore dans le garage. Nous restons un moment à discuter; il parait que leurs toilettes ont été cassé pendant la soirée. En effet, quelqu’un a fait tombé sa bouteille de bière sur le trône et les toilettes ont explosé en morceaux, ce qui n’a pas empêché la pose d’une crotte. En essayant de nettoyer Simon a plutôt étalé les preuves qu’autre chose. Nous rentrons à Manly chez Hadrien, où il nous fera découvrir le jeu Américain du Beer Pong.
The day after, everyone chilled and recovered. Hadrien showed us around Sydney: The Rocks, Darling Harbour and the Opera House. Then we headed back to CJ’s to get our bags back, hoping they would still be in the garage. We stayed a while chatting and heard the toilets got destroyed. Indeed somebody dropped his beer in the throne and exploded it, which did not prevent someone from doing work and taking a dump. Trying to clean the mess, Simon spread the evidence more than anything else. Finally we made our way back to Manly to Hadrien’s place where he introduced us to the American game of Beer Pong.
En général le Mercredi les skaters de Sydney se retrouvent pour une bonne session mais Hadrien a cours toute la journée et finit à 21h. Pour ma part après une balade dans Sydney, je rejoins Charly (un skater Francais), Alex Rast, CJ, Ryan Arnold et d’autres à Monster, le skate park de Sydney. Charly skate la mini rampe à spine qui est parfaite tandis que les autres skatent la partie street ; à vrai dire je ne sais pas vraiment si "skater" est un mot assez fort étant donné les tricks qui sont posés. Pour CJ, ce sera des 360 back royal, soul, acid, backslide etc. sur le rainbow curb. Quant à Ryan, il fera des true spin top pornstar, true spin fish et des fakie 360 true spin makio sur la sub-box. La session s’achève après une mauvaise chute pour Ryan. Enfin nous rentrons à Manly avec Alex.
Usually on Wednesday evenings Sydney skaters get together for a big session, but Hadrien had classes until 9pm. So after a walk downtown I met up with Charly (a French skater), Alex Rast, CJ, Rian Arnold and a few others at Monster, Sydney’s indoor skatepark. Charly skated the perfect spine mini ramp while the others rolled the street course; to tell the truth I am not sure "skating" is a word strong enough given the tricks that were landed. CJ destroyed the rainbow ledge with tricks such as 360 back shiftys, souls, acids, backslides, etc... In the meantime Rian landed some truetop porns, true fish and fullcab true makio on the sub-box. The session ended with a bad fall from Ryan. Finally Alex and I made our way back to Manly.
Sunrise- Dee Why (Sydney)
Le lendemain le réveil sonne à 5h du matin, Hadrien veut nous montrer un spot à Dee Why Beach. On prend le bus de 5h50 pour arriver avant le lever du soleil. Quand nous arrivons au spot: un banc parfait en bois sur la plage, il y a déjà quelque surfers dans l’eau. Hadrien commence à skater et le soleil se lève; les surfers rident les vagues et les couleurs sont magnifiques, je filme le tout. On se dirige ensuite vers le deuxième spot: un rail avec un petit kink tournant au début. Hadrien fera top soul et 270 back royal. Il est 8h30 du matin, la fatigue se fait déjà sentir, mais il y a un autre rail juste à cote et Hadrien veut le skater. Il mettra kindgrind. Après cette petite session vraiment matinale, on a chillé le reste de la journée pour être en forme pour la soirée. Hadrien a un plan dans un bateau pour les nouveaux étudiants internationaux de sa fac mais il est impossible d’avoir des tickets pour mon frère et moi. Plus tard on retrouve Hadrien au moment où il débarque après sa petite soirée puis après quelques verres à La Cita à Darling Harbour nous nous se dirigeons à nouveau vers King’s Cross pour rejoindre CJ et Charly au World Bar.

The day after, the alarm rings at 5am, Hadrien wants to show us a spot in Dee Why Beach. We take the bus at 5.50am in order to get there before sunrise. When we get to the spot, a perfect wooden bench "on" the beach, there are already some surfers in the water. Hadrien starts to skate and the sun starts to rise; surfers are riding the waves and the colours are amazing; I get everything on camera. We then move to a second spot still by the beach, a rail with a short angled kink. Hadrien lands a top soul and a 270 back shifty. It is now 8.30 in the morning; we are slowly getting tired after the short night, but there is another rail just a bit further and Hadrien wants to skate it. He lands kindgrind. After this really early session we went back to Manly and chilled for the rest of the day to be fresh for the night. Hadrien has a party on a boat organised for all the new international students from his uni, but it was impossible for my brother and I to get tickets. Later on we met up with Hadrien as he landed from the cruise and after a few drinks at La Cita in Darling Harbour we headed up to King’s Cross again to catch up with CJ and Charly at the World’s Bar.

Finalement la semaine fut rythmée par les parties de Beer Pong, les soirées dans les pubs de Sydney et Manly, les sessions à Beverly Hills High School et dans les street parks de Cammeray, Chatswood et Waterloo; sans oublier les diners au Brazooka, le restaurant Brésilien de Manly et chez Tony Roma's, lieu célebre pour ses Ribs. Nous voila à nouveau à l’aéroport, notre avion décolle dans 3h et il est temps d’y aller. Merci Hadrien pour l’hébergement et tout le reste !

Overall the week was punctuated by Beer Pong games, parties in various pubs of Sydney and Manly, sessions at Beverly Hills High School and at the streetparks of Cammeray, Chatswood and Waterloo Park; without forgetting dinners at Brazooka, Manly’s Brazilian restaurant, and at Tony Roma’s with its world famous ribs. We are now at the airport again, 3 hours away from our flight and it is time to check in. Thank you Hadrien for everything !
